VINYASA FLOW YOGA
Vinyasa yoga is one of the most commonly practiced styles in the west today. Literally translated, ‘vinyasa’ means ‘to arrange’ or ‘to place in a special way’. But often, it is simply translated as ‘flow’, and this can be a useful way to think of vinyasa. It refers to a carefully arranged sequence of asanas (yoga postures). Movement from one asana to the next follows the breath. The result is a smooth, flowing class that become almost dance-like.
Vinyasa yoga is a general name for any flowing style of yoga, and is characterised more by variation than consistency. Although it has evolved from Ashtanga yoga over time and is based on the ‘surya namaskar’ (‘salute to the sun’) sequence, teachers develop their own sequences using different asanas and creative transitions.

YOGA - HATHA
Hatha Yoga is a system of yoga introduced by Yogi Swatmarama, a yogic sage in the 15th century in India. This particular system of yoga is the most popular forms. Hatha Yoga tries to achieve balance between body and mind, as well as attempts to free the more subtle spiritual elements of the mind through physical poses. Hatha yoga classes contain slow-paced stretching with some simple breathing exercises and perhaps seated meditation. This is a good place to learn basic poses, relaxation techniques, and become comfortable with yoga.

RESTORATIVE YOGA/DEEP RELAXATION
Restorative yoga is a supported, conscious body/mind relaxation practice. When supported with props, the body relaxes and opens, releasing tension and stored-up toxins that can cause illness. Restorative poses offer benefits to both the body and mind, for conditions ranging from insomnia to asthma to chronic pain to migraines to depression.
Chest-opening poses encourage breath and prana (energy) to flow through the entire body. Forward bends gently lengthen all the muscles of the back body. Done in sequence, a restorative yoga practice will bring your whole body into a deeply relaxed state, and allow your mind to become quiet and reflective, with your mental, psychological, and emotional bodies in blissful balance.

KUNDALINI YOGA
Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1968. Yogi Bhajan taught that, through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life.
Kundalini yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayam, mantra, music and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to achieve results with your very first class.
Beginner/all levels. Ages teen - adult.

TAI CHI
Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese practice for health, relaxation, longevity and self defense that provides great stress relief in our modern Western world. Known as a "soft" martial art because the movements are slow and relaxed, tai chi combines deep breathing and mindful movement in a series of dance-like postures that include
punches, kicks and blocks along with deeply calming movements whose names reflect the art's centeredness and stillness -- "Wave Hands Like Clouds," "White Crane Spreads Its Wings" and "Golden Pheasant Stands
on One Leg."
Daily practitioners soon notice improvements in balance, coordination and alertness. Over time, strength and muscle tone are developed. Tai Chi is "good for whatever ails you" because it promotes the body's own
healing powers. When tai chi is practiced in a group, the exchange of energy amplifies those effects.
Chi Kung, or Qi Gong translates as energy work. The postures are repeated like calesthenics, making them easier to learn. They also mimic some of the movements in the Tai Chi series, making them excellent practice for learning the Tai Chi form.

WEST SHORE MINDFULNESS MEDITATION GROUP
Mindfulness Meditation is a western, non-sectarian form of meditation designed to develop the skill of paying attention to our inner and outer experiences with acceptance, patience, and compassion. Instead of finding ourselves at the mercy of worry, fear, anger, and the like, we grow in our ability to choose how we want to act in situations, often in ways that might have been out of our reach before.
If you're interested in learning more about the evidence based benefits of meditation, or if you would like to learn how to integrate regular practice into daily life, or if you just want to meet with a group of "like-hearted" people to support your individual practice we believe you'll find the time spent here to be a welcomed oasis on your journey towards happiness, wholeness, and well-being.
Session includes a weekly handout, Q&A, and guided meditation.
